About this work
Going into this artwork, I wanted to make a successor to one of my first artworks, āLa Renaissanceā, the artwork that truly defined my style as an artist. Creating an artwork mimicking the classical European Baroque style meant it had to express grandeur and richness, but also drama, movement, tension and emotion.
I started experimenting with various materials and textures after being inspired by the work of painter and photographer Marilyn Minter. After weeks of using cake decorating candies and mixing edible silver pigment and vodka for texture, I finally achieved the results I was looking for.
The behind-the-scenes images tell the story of this artwork best. When shooting, we gradually built up to the moment where the final picture was taken. Layer by layer we added texture, leading up to the grand finale, where the glitter perfectly captures the movement I wanted this work to convey. And just when the model closed his eyes, I pressed the shutter and eternalized this magical moment.
