Kiss of Delft

Photography Kiss of Delft

About this work

In conceptualizing these images, I let my mind wander back to my past. This journey took me back to my roots, back to Antwerp. Having been part of the Netherlands for a long time, Antwerp became a leading center of luxury goods and crafts. The iconic style of pottery, Delft Blue, found its roots in Antwerp as well.

Inspired by the iconic pottery and its origin, the concept behind Kiss of Delft took shape. The iconic Delft Blue was a luxury product introduced when the Dutch Golden Age was in full swing. I wanted to portray the female body as a canvas for luxury and indulgence.

Kiss of Delft & Delft Renaissance show a woman being slowly transformed into Dutch pottery, as if she had received the kiss of Delft. It symbolises her slowly being consumed and losing her true identity to the pure luxury that is consuming her.
