Transhuman Romance

Photography Transhuman Romance

Transhuman Romance leaves the audience questioning what would it be like to be entertained by a cyborg-geisha? What is authentic? What is artificial? Is it not our destiny to transcend this antiquated dichotomy?

About this work

One of the first stories I told through my art was a story of a transition, reflecting on the connection between my work as a photographer and my art.

Constant changes and transformations are an evolution seen every day in nature, but this evolution is also seen through modern scientific advances. The day that humans will become superhuman seems far away, but biological and physical enhancements are already a part of our technological landscape “Cyborgification is simply the process of compensating technologically for the inherent limitations of natural man.”

Exploring the relationship between natural and artificial is a fitting progression for my conceptual style. For this artwork, I created a character that seems to have stepped out of a science-fiction novel and into the light of my strobes.

The essence of a woman beneath the makeup is still perceptible. However, she is clearly enhanced by a technology as yet unknown to humankind. Magnificently beautiful, the model-turned-cyborg-geisha seems to stare into the soul of the viewer with her irisless eyes.
